The J.N. Somers Yad Hebrew School for Children with Special Needs

The Commission for Jewish Education’s J.N. Somers Yad Hebrew School is a unique Hebrew School for children with special needs where students learn Jewish traditions, holiday rituals, and Hebrew prayers in a fun, loving, one-to-one, barrier-free environment. Yad serves children ages 5 and older who are who are on the Autism spectrum, have Downs Syndrome, ADD/ADHD, speech delays and those who need more support than may be received in a traditional synagogue religious school. Judith & Jack Rosenberg Mentoring 4 Kids is a free, non-sectarian program of Alpert Jewish Family & Children’s Service. We match thoroughly screened adult volunteer mentors with children ages 6-14 who are being raised in single parent homes. Together, the mentor and child share a wide range of fun, cultural activities while building a lasting friendship. The Melvin J. & Claire Levine LifePlanning® program at Alpert Jewish Family Service, offers free education, advocacy, consultation and emotional support to parents, siblings and caregivers of a family member with a disability. This program offers a workshop series open to the public covering topics such as properly planning ahead for when you are no longer able to be a caregiver, attaining benefits and ensuring a quality life for your family member including socialization, recreation and vocational opportunities. Private consultations with a Master’s Level Social Worker are available to discuss individual planning and support needs. Disabilities may include physical, intellectual, developmental, traumatic brain injuries and mental illness.
